Abstract 摘要

The discovery of the so-called high temperature superconductors in 1987, which are able to conduct very high electrical currents and generate extremely high magnetic fields at liquid nitrogen temperatures, was heralded as the most significant scientific breakthrough since the discovery of the transistor. This talk will describe in a non-mathematical way the properties of these remarkable materials, their manufacture and their potential for engineering applications.

 

高温超导体于1987年被发现,它拥有比其他超导物质更高的临界温度,能在液态氮的环境下负载高倍电流,产生强大磁场。它的发现被视为是晶体管之后,科学界最重要的突破。在本次讲座中,讲者将为大家简略介绍这些特殊材料的种种特质、生产制作以及在工程应用中的潜能。

 

We have not only a glorious history in technology development which we can be proud of but also a humble past which we cannot ignore. In the last thirty years, we saw a rapid economic growth and transformation of our society. Though we are advancing rapidly to re-build our nation, we still recognize the gap in technology between us and other advanced nations. The speaker will share his view on how the gap can be closed through the commitment of the present and future generations.

 

我国的科技发展中,既有光辉灿烂的古代篇章,亦有令人惋惜的近代历史。过去30年经济高速发展,社会变革加深,科学技术异军突起,掀起翻天覆地的变革。尽管如此,我们也不得不承認我们与发达国家之间仍有差距。讲者将回顾过去,展望将来,探讨未来我国科技的发展道路。
