北京大学附中与芬兰罗素高中之间友好联系的建立最早可追溯到2001年。2001年6月17-19日，时任教育部部长的陈至立同志率团访问芬兰期间参观了罗素高中，对芬兰普通高中“不分年级”(Non-graded System)的教育体制及其经验表示了极大的兴趣 。

The establishment of the friendship between High School of Peking University (HSPKU) and RESSU Upper Secondary School (RESSU) dates back to the year of 2001. In June 2001, Madam Chen Zhili, the former minister of the education department paid a visit to RESSU along with her delegation during their official stay in Finland.
